Hockey is a fast game. I prefer it to cricket because we don’t have to sit for three or five days to watch the match. The Inter-Board Hockey Competitions were held at University ground this year. I watched the final match which was played between Gujranwala Board and Rawalpindi Board. The two teams entered the playground at 3:30. The players took their positions and the game started with the sound of clapping. The spectators cheering for both teams. But last time in the tournament Gujranwala Board have lost their match to Rawalpindi Board. So the Gujranwala Board has to take their revenge win against the current powerful team in the tournament. Rawalpindi Board Hockey team looking strong so they could win this match again. The Rawalpindi Board is so far undefeatable in the Inter-Board Hockey Championship.
The center-forward of the Rawalpindi team pushed the ball to his inside right who passed it to outside right. He took the ball and made his way to the ‘D’ but the defenders of the. Gujranwala team cleared the ball. Their center-forward took the ball, dodged three players and gave a short pass to his left-in player near the ‘D’. The defenders tried to clear the ball but it was a bit late. The left-in player entered the ‘D’ and pushed it into the goal. Thus the first goal of the first half was scored within five minutes.
The captain of the Rawalpindi team encouraged his players. They were able to convert a penalty corner into a goal. The two teams tried their best to score more goals but the defenders and goalkeepers of both the teams did their job so well that neither team could score any further goal till the halftime. The Gujranwala Board team goalkeeper successfully stop two-goal attacks from the opposition players. The Rawalpindi Board lead striker is trying his best to sweep the ball in the opposition goal. But the goalkeeper is so talented. He defends well.
The second half of the game is going on. The play in the second half was so entertaining and absorbing. Each team tried its best to win the match. Both the teams made many attacks on each other’s goals. Each team succeeded in getting penalty corners but could not convert them. Gujranwala Board has one penalty stroke but doesn’t have any benefit of that chance. Only five minutes were left and both the teams were equal with one goal. Gujranwala board tried their best to equalize the goal. They made a few very good moves but each. It looks like a do or dying match for both teams. The players seemed tired and desperate. Suddenly, the center-forward of the Rawalpindi Board succeeded in scoring a goal from a rebound. The Rawalpindi Board won the championship. The spectators praised the performance of both the teams. Rawalpindi board successfully defend their title. Runner up Gujranwala board also played very well but they lost the match better luck next time. Congratulations to the Rawalpindi board.
